History

The Department of Accounting & Finance started in 1981, pioneered by late Professor B.O. Ogundele as the Head of Department. The first set of students were enrolled in the 1981/82 academic session and they graduated in the 1984/85 academic session.

The curriculum of the degrees offered is as approved by the University Senate in line with NUC minimum academic standards (BMAS). However, the Department of Accounting & Finance was split into two, viz: Department of Accounting and Department of Finance in 2012/2013 session. Dr. A.S. Kasum was appointed as the coordinator at the inception of the new department. He was elevated to acting Head of Department in 2013/2014 academic session.

The student’s population averaged about six hundred (600) per session in the last three academic years. The academic staff strength is currently thirty-five (35), an Accounting Programmer as a technical staff and four (4) non-teaching staff. In addition to first degree, the Department also offers a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Ph.D Degree in Accounting. A substantial number of students have graduated from the programmes over the years.
